NFL fans are like the fat fuck in the buffet line who shouldn't be back for their third helping but just can't help themselves. Seems like no matter what the NFL piles on our plate at any time in the year, we gobble that shit up by the spoonful. Most of us were hungry for NFL news not related to arrest warrants and Wednesday night we got another helping of American football when they released the regular season schedule.
The schedule release can be somewhat interesting for the fact that we see exactly when our favorite team will be playing but it's mostly just for us to setup our drinking schedules, right? The more Thursday, Sunday, and Monday nights we see, the more sick days we'll take and more coffee we'll drink at the office. Of course some people will flip out about the new schedule and predict W/L for each week, which is fun and pointless, but I'm a little more interested in how the pregame and postgame schedules will fall into place.
That being said, the Broncos face some tough teams to open the season but will at least face most of them at Sports Authority Field at Mile High at Denver at Colorado at North America at Planet Earth. I'm also not a big fan of the week four BYE. The last half of the season has many beatable teams but a majority of the games will be played on the road. For social purposes, Monday, September 8 should be a state holiday because everyone will be hungover. Weeks 3, 4, and 6 offer up some potential warm weather flag football opportunities. I'm also eyeballing weeks 11, 13, and 16 as potential wine Sundays. I'm also anticipating week 9 as to when I'm officially broke from bad bets and week 12 will be when I'm mathematically eliminated from my fantasy football league's playoffs.
Whatever the schedule, it really just matters that you win enough games to get into the playoffs and hope as many key players are still in pads when you get there. We already know the opponents the Broncos will play every year thanks to the predetermined division opponent rotation so we're really just pinning dates to teams here. We also know that a couple of these games will be flexed or changed at some point. We can also be damn sure that the Broncos will travel to New England to play at Mr. Kraft's home for the 84th consecutive season.
While it's fun to talk football, don't be the first guy that goes down the list week by week and breaks it down. Try not to be the "We got a tough schedule" guy even though you know injuries and randomness will change everything come late October. But definitely circle those night games and warn your boss in advance that you will be smelling of alcohol in the morning if you are somehow able to pull yourself out of bed when the alarm goes off.
