Maybe your finger quivers a little when you click the ACCEPT button on your computer for a trade proposal but do not be ashamed because this is normal. This uneasiness is likely due to the unknown of taking on a new player and getting rid of a familiar face. Usually you can sort of get an idea of how your trade played out over the course of the season but we've never broken down the stats of all the involved players when the dust settles. That is until your commish had a vision and two hours of free time at work. Below is a trade analysis of all of the trades that took place this season to see who was traded and how they performed with their new fantasy team's ballcap. The stats are current as of 8/3/2014 and reflect the numbers a player earned since he was traded. Trading is always fun, numbers are sometimes fun so let's have a little fun and see what the tale of the tape reveals about our deals throughout the 2014 season.
Analysis: The injury to Prince was a killer for Jerome but Asdrubal has been a solid and unspectacular SS option. Petty has gotten some nice numbers from Braun but not All-Star numbers we're accostumed to while Headley was generally worthless for the 34 games Petty had him.
Verdict: Petty by a neck
Verdict: Petty by a neck
Analysis: Matty was definitely looking to upgrade speed and did get some SB's but not much else from Marte and Martin. Petty was hoping to buy low on Votto but it's obvious that he's been hurt all season and has been a huge letdown. Markakis has been a steady outfielder for Kevin, though.
Verdict: Draw
Verdict: Draw
Analysis: Jeff was looking to sell based off of Blackmon's hot April start and did a nice job of that. Getting Wacha was looking very nice albeit without many K's and with some serious arm problems lately. Matty didn't get the return he was looking for and it was so bad that he either dropped or traded all three of these guys
Verdict: Jeff Petty by two lengths.
Verdict: Jeff Petty by two lengths.
Analysis: Pretty nice 1 for 1 trade with two guys with different skillsets but lots to like. Hard for Matty to complain as Reyes has been pretty good and pretty healthy all year. Lance loves that goofy bastard Pence and once again Hunter is playing great baseball and defying the critics. Great trade by both of these owners.
Verdict: Lance by a half a length
Verdict: Lance by a half a length
Analysis: Jerome knew he wouldn't get a high batting average but Desmond's power/speed appeal was enough to ship off one of Jerome's best pitchers. Jennings has been boring so far and especially hasn't given Jerome the speed he expected. Meyer is the clear winner in this trade as Gray has been everything and more for Jeff without showing any fatigue in the young arm. Gray will be monitored down the stretch but Meyer got more than enough value from this trade no matter what.
Verdict: Meyer by 10 lengths
Verdict: Meyer by 10 lengths
Analysis: Both owners were selling high here and both owners got mediocre results in return. Morneau drives in a lot of runs but didn't lift enough balls out of the park for the commish's taste. Peralta has somehow strung together 7 QS's to his 3 losses with a pretty awful ERA and WHIP. Not all bad for Castillo but definitely not much good here.
Verdict: Jerome by a nose
Verdict: Jerome by a nose
Analysis: I don't blame Arch and Rickey for trying to buy low on Choo and offer a Cubbie to Richard in return but this has blown up in Arch and Rickey's face horribly. Most were expecting Starlin to go into a funk but he's been pretty steady throughout the year. Choo, like most Texas Rangers would love to erase all of 2014 from his brain and end this season ASAP.
Verdict: Rich by 9 lengths
Verdict: Rich by 9 lengths
Analysis: Price suffered from a few bad innings early on that pumped up his ERA, WHIP, and Losses but he's been a top twelve pitcher for most of the season. Zach gave up the biggest piece but got a couple of decent pieces in return as Blackmon has warmed back up a little and Roark was decent and was then sent back to Matty in a future trade. Solarte was ready for a major dive and Zach sold at a perfect time and Matty quickly realized that Yangevis ain't worth it. Price is the difference here as he's been phenomenal for Matty and could very well lead him to some dollar bills in the near future.
Verdict: Matty by a length and 1/2
Verdict: Matty by a length and 1/2
Analysis: On paper we all knew that Matt Suer was getting the better second baseman but Scooter has more than held his own since being dealt. In fact, he's been almost as valuable as Kinsler since the trade. Maydew would be the winner in this trade if he got someone besides the flaming ball of failure that is Steve Cishek.
Verdict: Matty Suer by a neck
Verdict: Matty Suer by a neck
Analysis: This trade has very much helped Jerome vault back up into title contention. Jerome looked to buy low on Carlos Santana and boy oh boy, has the return on the Santana investment been substantial. Beltre has done what Beltre always does, which is be a great overall hitter for DeFelice. Morneau has proved to be no fluke for Maydew and has put up some alright numbers despite a DL stint. Chisenhall has come back down to earth with very unfortunate timing for Maydew.
Verdict: Jerome by 10 lengths
Verdict: Jerome by 10 lengths
Analysis: I give Lance credit for trying to add some help with a month to go but it hasn't made much of a difference. Lance was looking for Lowrie and Castellanos to hopefully catch fire but they've been the same boring players since the trade. Masterson was terrible in his one outing for Laser, too. Josh Harrison is playing out of his gourd and has stayed hot for Jeff Petty who just added a versitile player on a roll who is helping Jeff's team move up the standings.
Verdict: Jeff by 4 lengths
Verdict: Jeff by 4 lengths
Analysis: The Suer's like to bounce Roark back and forth but it is Matt who seems to know when to pounce on this Washington National at the right time. Hits McGehee was playing over his head all year and has come back to being a guy that played in Japan all last season since being dealt to Matt. Zach's team has fallen down the standings thanks mostly to his batters but these two pitchers are contibuting to the losing streak as well.
Verdict: Matty by 2 lengths
Verdict: Matty by 2 lengths
Analysis: Just like Laser, I have to applaud Tim for identifying the need to mix things up and going for it. It's pretty early to review this trade but J.D. Martinez looks like a legit hitter this year and Hosmer was starting to play a little better before his injury. I think Matt is evaluating rosters more than any Rockies GM as he's here again for our final trade so far. Samardzija was having a great season and has been pretty good for Matty since the trade and likely will be a nice SP4 for Matty in the playoffs.
Verdict: Matty by a neck
Verdict: Matty by a neck
Overall, I can't remember as many trades over the course of the season than we've seen in 2014. We can probably thank Matt Suer for this but it's definitely been fun to have the cell phone buzz so often with trade proposals and accepted trades. I hope this was a fun little activity to review our trades and hopefully this leads to many trades in 2015, too.
